Pricing

Priced for people paying lawyers, not for lawyers.

You're already facing the most expensive year of your life. Our promises: a free tier that's actually useful, no per-parent double-charging, no hostage-taking of your records when you stop paying — and a hardship program for the people who need this most.

One-time purchases

Sometimes you don't need a subscription. We get it.

Message Log Package

$29–49 one-time

One certified, court-ready PDF message log from Message Extractor — paginated, indexed, hash-certified, with the authentication declaration attached. For the "I just need my texts as a PDF for Friday's hearing" moment. No subscription required. Price varies with log size.

Case Closed export

$49 one-time

When your case ends, pay once and download your complete Case Bundle — every original file, manifests, and exhibit-ready PDFs. Your account can then go dormant free forever with read access. Ending your subscription never means losing your records.

AI credit top-ups

$5 per 10-pack

For the rare heavy week — like bulk-importing 65 pages of texts. The monthly AI pool included in paid plans covers normal use; top-ups are a fairness valve, not a paywall.

Beta & early access

Free, extended

Tools launch in stages — Evidence Helper first, then Message Extractor, Case Builder, and Comms Guard. Early users get extended free access as each tool opens.

Free access programs

If you can't pay, you still deserve an organized case.

Hardship program

Full access, free, through referral codes distributed by domestic-violence organizations, shelters, and legal aid offices. If you're working with an advocate, ask them — or contact us through the app and we'll connect you with a referring organization. This program is why the company exists.

Attorneys & advocates: always free

Your client's subscription carries the case. Invited attorneys and advocates get free, case-scoped logins with their own dashboard — and clients who arrive organized, with an evidence index, timeline, and per-issue summaries already built. Attorney notes live in a separate work-product layer.

How we compare

The whole category just killed its free tiers. We built one.

The established co-parenting platforms charge each parent separately, require both parties to join (often by court order), and as of early 2026, none of them offers a free tier.

Platform Price Free tier Works with just one parent Your records after you stop paying
Custody Commander $0 free · $199/yr full suite ($24.99/mo); single product $119/yr ($14.99/mo) Yes — real and permanent Yes — one-sided by design Full export anytime; $49 Case Closed export, then free read access forever
OurFamilyWizard $149.99–$299.88/yr per parent No No — both parents must join Subscription required for access
TalkingParents ~$77–$353/yr Eliminated March 2026 No — both parties on platform Records tied to the platform
AppClose ~$108/yr Ended January 1, 2026 No — built for both co-parents Subscription required for access

Competitor pricing verified June 2026 from public pricing pages; plans and prices may change. Custody Commander is not affiliated with OurFamilyWizard, TalkingParents, or AppClose. We solve a different problem, too — they're messaging platforms; we're your case file. If a court orders you onto one of them, Comms Guard works alongside it.

Pricing questions

The fine print, in plain language

Is the free tier really free, or a trial that expires?

Really free, indefinitely: 1 case, 50 evidence items, full organizing and search, watermarked exports, no AI features, no credit card. It exists because the founder needed exactly this and couldn't afford anything — not as bait.

Why subscriptions instead of buy-once?

Honest answer: AI processing costs us money every month, and a legal case is an ongoing process, so ongoing pricing matches how the product is used. But we built the buy-once options people actually want — the one-time Message Log Package and the $49 Case Closed export — and the free tier never expires.

What happens to my records if I cancel?

You can export your complete case bundle — originals included — before or after canceling, free. And the one-time $49 Case Closed export packages everything (originals, manifests, exhibit-ready PDFs) and leaves your account in free read-only mode forever. "Pay forever or lose your records" is the industry complaint we refuse to recreate.

What counts as an "AI operation"?

Things like extracting text from a screenshot or checking a message draft. Paid plans include a monthly pool sized so roughly nine in ten users never think about it. If you have an unusually heavy week, $5 top-up packs cover the gap — they're a fairness valve for power users, not a meter on normal use.

Do both parents have to pay?

No — only you, and only if you upgrade past free. Custody Commander works for one parent alone; the other party never needs an account, never gets notified, and never affects your pricing. Compare that with platforms charging each parent up to $299.88 per year.

How do I get a hardship code?

Through partner DV organizations, shelters, and legal aid offices. If you're working with an advocate or attorney, ask them first. If you're not connected with an organization yet, reach out through the app and we'll point you to a referring partner near you.

Start free. Decide later, with your evidence already organized.

No card, no countdown. If the paid tools earn their keep, they'll prove it first.
