Common questions

About the hearing-prep plan

Is this legal advice?

No. The plan is general information about getting organized: what to gather, how to keep it in order and when to print and pack. It doesn't tell you what to file, what to argue or what a judge will decide. Court rules vary, so check your court's rules, and consult a licensed attorney where you live about your situation.

How is the plan made?

By fixed rules, with no AI: the same rules Custody Commander uses to build a starting plan after sign-up. The type of hearing, the date and whether you have a lawyer decide which steps appear and when they're due. For example, the binder step is due ten days before the hearing and printing it three days before. A few fixed countdown steps are added too, like practicing with your notes two weeks out and packing the day before. Same answers, same plan.

My hearing is in a few days. Is it too late?

No. If the hearing is close, every step that would have been due earlier is moved to today, so you see everything that's left in one list. Start with the hearing details and your binder. The night-before checklist covers the last 24 hours.

Does it work for protective-order hearings?

Yes. Choose "Protective order" and the plan puts account safety first. If you are in danger, call 911. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is 1-800-799-7233 (text START to 88788). On this site, pressing Esc twice leaves the page quickly. See how protective-order hearings work for background.

What if my hearing date changes?

Come back and make the plan again with the new date; it takes a few seconds. In the app, change the hearing date once and the countdown and reminders follow it.

Walk into the hearing with your papers in order.

Countdowns, reminders, a timeline, numbered evidence and a hearing binder, in one private case file.
