Alimentor 2 is a custody tracker for iPhone, iPad and Mac, and for parents who mostly need to show when the children were actually with them, it's a good fit. People look for an alternative when they use an Android phone, when they'd rather work in a web browser, or when most of their record is text messages rather than calendar entries.
Here's a fair look at what Alimentor 2 does, when it's the better pick, and what else works. Its facts come from Alimentor's homepage, its user guide, and its iPhone and Mac App Store listings, checked October 23, 2026. We have not bought or tested Alimentor 2. Check its site again before you buy, because prices and features change. Custody Commander makes one of the tools compared here, so weigh this page with that in mind.
What Alimentor 2 does well
- Parenting time, planned and actual. You enter the custody schedule, then record what really happened: late pickups, no-shows and extra time. It totals hours, overnights and timeshare percentages.
- Calls, expenses and reimbursements. It logs parent-child calls, including missed ones, and child expenses as due, paid or pending, with receipts attached.
- Custody factors. You can tag records with custody factors (it lists nearly 60, with guidance) and bring them together in a best-interests report. It can also save pickup and drop-off locations.
- Files attached to each event. Photos, receipts, emails and PDFs sit on the record they relate to.
- Reports and a spreadsheet. Its reports can include a calendar, totals, summaries and a detailed journal, filtered by hashtags and text filters, and its guide describes an Excel (.xlsx) export.
- One-time price, one parent. The App Store listed $6.99 for iPhone and iPad, with the Mac app $24.99 separately, and no subscription. Its website offers a 30-day free trial of the Mac app. Your co-parent doesn't have to use it.
If your case turns mostly on the schedule, you use Apple devices, and you want a low one-time price, Alimentor 2 is a strong choice. You may not need anything else.
When another tool may fit better
| Your situation | Why Alimentor 2 may not be the whole answer |
|---|---|
| Your phone is Android, or your computer runs Windows | Its guide lists iPhone, iPad and Mac apps. It can publish your calendar to outside calendars so someone on Android or Windows can view the events, without the photos and attachments |
| Your record is months of texts or WhatsApp | Its guide adds messages to a record as screenshots, copied text or a PDF printout, rather than turning a whole export into one numbered log |
| You have a pile of screenshots, photos and documents to put in order | It attaches files to the event they support, which works well for schedule records. Numbering a large set of files as exhibits with an index is a different job |
| A court order names a co-parenting app | Follow what the order requires. A private tracker is separate and doesn't replace an app the order names. A clerk, self-help center or licensed attorney where you live can confirm |
Two kinds of custody record
Most parents keeping records end up with two kinds, and it helps to know which one you're mostly dealing with before you pick a tool.
A schedule record
This is when each child was with each parent, compared with the schedule: exchanges, missed visits, late pickups, calls and shared costs. It's built one entry at a time, as things happen. A tracker such as Alimentor 2 is made for this. A paper log or our free custody and visitation log templates do the same job by hand.
An evidence record
This is the material you already have: text threads, emails, screenshots, photos and documents. The work is putting it in date order, numbering it so anyone can find "item 14", and keeping the originals safe. Our custody evidence checklist covers what parents commonly gather.
Plenty of parents need both. You can keep the schedule in one tool and the evidence in another.
When the record is texts you already have
Screenshotting a long conversation one screen at a time is slow, and it's easy to skip a day or crop a date. A full export of the conversation, numbered message by message, keeps both sides in order.
- Export from your own phone. WhatsApp has an Export chat option in each chat. Android texts can be saved with a backup app. iPhone texts need a computer program such as iMazing.
- Check the export covers the full date range you care about.
- Number every message and show the sender, date and time on each one.
- Keep the originals on your phone, and a second copy of the export.
You can see your own export as a numbered log before you pay anything: the free text message log preview reads an iMazing .csv, an Android backup file or a WhatsApp export in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
Questions to ask before you pay for any tool
- Does it run on my phone or computer? Check the devices listed, not just the screenshots.
- Does the other parent have to join? Neither Alimentor 2 nor Custody Commander requires it. Shared co-parenting apps usually do.
- What does it cost over time? A one-time price and a monthly plan add up differently if your case runs long.
- Where is my data kept, and can I get it out? Look for an export you can open without the app, and read the privacy page.
- Can I try it first? Enter one week of real entries, or one short conversation, and print it.
What any custody record needs
Parents and attorneys often look for these on a printed page, whichever tool made it. Your court may expect something different, so check with the clerk or a licensed attorney where you live.
- Dates and times on every entry, and the date you wrote it if it was later.
- Plain facts: who, what and where, without guesses about why.
- The proof linked: the receipt, photo or message behind each entry, easy to find.
- Page numbers or item numbers, so anyone can find one entry quickly.
- The originals kept somewhere safe that only you can reach.
No tool can promise a court will accept its report. That depends on your court's rules and how the evidence is presented. The clerk's office, a self-help center or a licensed attorney where you live can tell you what yours expects. Nothing on this page tells you what to file or how a judge will see it.
Keep your records private and safe
- Know where your data lives. Alimentor 2 keeps records in your own iCloud, according to its App Store listing. Custody Commander keeps them in your account, and its free text log preview runs only in your browser. Read each privacy page before you add anything sensitive.
- Back up regularly. Export a copy now and then (a spreadsheet, a PDF report or your text export) and note the date range each copy covers.
- Don't edit the originals. If something needs to be left out, ask the clerk or a licensed attorney where you live how your court handles that, rather than deleting entries or messages.
- Only record your own information. Don't access the other parent's phone or accounts to get theirs.
- Think about shared devices. If someone else can reach your phone, tablet or iCloud account, change the passcode and check which devices are signed in before you start a record.
A browser-based option for evidence and texts
Custody Commander is a private case organizer that runs in a web browser on any phone or computer. Like Alimentor 2, it's used by one parent: the other parent never creates an account and is not notified.
- Free plan, no card, that doesn't expire: one case file with up to 10 evidence items and a watermarked PDF export.
- A numbered text log: an Android, WhatsApp or iPhone export turned into a chronological PDF (MSG-00001 onward) with an index page. Preview it free; the full log is $39 once, no subscription.
- Or the Full Suite, $24.99 a month or $199 a year, which keeps the log with your evidence, timeline and hearing prep. It's free for 7 days, and a card is required for that trial.
It doesn't build a custody calendar or count parenting time, so if that's the main job, Alimentor 2 or a printed visitation log is the better tool. Custody Commander is self-help software: it organizes the messages and files you provide. It doesn't decide what to file or how a court will treat them.
Pick Alimentor 2 if you're on Apple devices and your record is mostly the schedule, calls and expenses. Pick a browser organizer if you're on Android or Windows, or if your record is mostly texts and files. Many parents can use one for each.
