Assistant
Ask questions about your own case file and have the assistant do organizing work for you — adding hearings, to-dos, timeline events, contacts, and more.
The Assistant knows your case: your court cases, hearings, documents, evidence, messages, to-dos, and timeline. Ask it to find something or explain what's coming up, or tell it to do the organizing for you. It's available from Assistant in the sidebar and from the chat bubble on every page — both share the same conversation.
What you can ask#
- "When's my next hearing?"
- "Find my custody documents."
- "What evidence do I have about the school pickup in March?"
- "Summarize the order I uploaded yesterday."
- "Which to-dos are due this week?"
Answers come from your actual records, with links to them.
What it can do for you#
| Area | Examples |
|---|---|
| Court cases & hearings | "Add a court case — ask me for the details." "The hearing on the 12th was continued to November 3." |
| Timeline | "Add an event: missed exchange on Saturday, June 7." |
| To-dos | "Add a to-do to file the parenting plan, due Friday." "Mark the records request done." |
| Evidence | "Set the event date on the playground photo to May 3 and tag it safety." "Extract the text from the new screenshots." |
| Documents | Create and revise letters, notes, and outlines; move documents between folders and cases; restore an earlier version. |
| Contacts, issues & folders | Add and edit contacts and issues; create and rename folders. |
| Messages | "Log that I texted her at 6 pm confirming pickup." (It records messages — it never sends them.) |
| Preparation | Read and update preparation records, carry a hearing desk forward, duplicate a binder, and get export links. |
Use the + button to upload PDFs, Word, text, RTF, Markdown, or CSV files straight into Documents, then ask the assistant to summarize them or update hearing outcomes from them.
When you're inside a court case, the assistant works in that case automatically. If it needs more detail, it asks — often with buttons you can click to answer.
How it makes changes#
- It only changes what you ask it to. Questions, summaries, and searches never change anything.
- Changes you ask for happen right away and are shown as CREATED, UPDATED, or ADDED with links, so you can check them.
- Be specific. Name the record you mean. If a request is ambiguous ("change that one"), it will ask which. Bulk changes need words like "all" or "every", and are capped at 20 at a time.
- Deleting always needs your confirmation. The assistant can only delete documents and evidence, and only after you click Yes, delete on a confirmation card. The card expires after 10 minutes and won't work if the item changed in the meantime.
What it won't do#
- Legal advice. It won't choose what you should file or argue, assess your chances, or predict a ruling. A licensed attorney or your court's self-help center can help with those.
- Court filings. Motions, declarations, orders, and other template documents are made in Documents, where the review and signing steps are.
- Sign, attest, share, pay, or accept anything on your behalf.
- Send messages. It can log a message you've sent, but never sends one.
Chat history#
Conversations are saved in this browser for this case. Use History to go back to an earlier conversation and New chat to start fresh. Very long conversations eventually need a new chat. Because history lives in the browser, it won't follow you to another device — and if you share a computer, see Privacy, safety & security.
What it costs#
Each message you send uses 1 AI operation, however much work the assistant does to answer it. Requests it declines (such as legal-advice questions) are free. More about AI operations.
The assistant organizes, finds, and drafts. It doesn't give legal advice. Review anything it creates before relying on it.
Using your own AI instead#
Prefer to work in Claude or another AI app? You can connect it to your case through the MCP server and the downloadable AI skill.
