To-dos & hearings
Track every court date and its outcome, and every task and deadline that leads up to it.
Missing a deadline or walking into a hearing unprepared is the easiest way to lose ground. Hearings and to-dos work together: hearings hold the dates, to-dos hold the work that has to happen before them.
Hearings#
Hearings belong to a court case. Open Cases, choose the court case, and select the Hearings tab on Case home. The summary at the top shows your next hearing and how many past hearings still need an outcome.
Add a hearing#
- Enter the dateThe date is required; add the time if you know it.
- Add the detailsPurpose (for example "Temporary custody hearing"), Courthouse / location, and Room.
- SaveClick Add hearing. It appears on your timeline and Overview, and templates will use it as your "next hearing".
Hearing status#
Status is worked out from the date and anything you've recorded:
| Status | Means |
|---|---|
| Upcoming / Today | The hearing hasn't happened yet, or is today. |
| Past — needs outcome | The date has passed and you haven't recorded what happened. |
| Held | The hearing took place. |
| Continued | It was moved to another date. |
| Vacated / Cancelled | It was taken off the calendar. |
Record the outcome#
After a hearing, click Record outcome, choose Held, Continued, Vacated, or Cancelled, and add notes about what happened while it's fresh. If it was continued to a new date, enter the new date and choose Save + create follow-up — the app creates the next hearing and links the two.
Everything for one hearing#
On the Timeline, click a hearing to see its linked evidence, documents, and binders. You can link more from there, and create a hearing binder. For deeper preparation — speaking notes, a reading view, and a snapshot of what you brought — use a hearing desk.
To-dos#
Open To-Dos in the sidebar for everything, or a court case's To Dos tab for just that case. The header shows how many are open, and Filter narrows the list to one court case.
Add a to-do#
- Say what needs doingA short subject — "Request school attendance records" — and optional details.
- Attach itGeneral, a court case, or a specific hearing. Attaching to a hearing keeps preparation tasks with the date they're for.
- Set a due dateOverdue tasks are flagged "Overdue".
- SaveClick Add to-do.
Right-click a to-do to mark it complete or incomplete, create a new one, or delete it (you'll be asked to confirm). Completed to-dos show the date they were finished, which you can edit if you finished it earlier.
Faster: ask the Assistant — "Add a to-do to file the parenting plan, due Friday" — or have it reschedule, complete, or reopen tasks for you.
Planning for a hearing#
A simple routine that works:
- Add the hearing as soon as you get notice of it.
- Add to-dos for everything due before it — filings, records to request, copies to print — attached to that hearing.
- Link the evidence and documents you plan to use.
- Build a binder a few days before, and mark it printed when you print it.
- Record the outcome the same day, and create the follow-up if it was continued.
Deadlines and filing requirements come from your court and your state's rules. Check your court papers and your court's self-help resources for the dates that apply to you — the app only tracks the dates you enter.
