Sharing with your attorney

Invite an attorney, advocate, or co-parent, choose exactly what they can see and do, and work together on requests, submissions, and packages.

Sidebar → SharingPrivate by default

Everything in Custody Commander is private to you until you share it. When you do, you choose who, what, and how much: an attorney might get your whole case with edit access; an advocate might see only your timeline; a co-parent might see only specific documents.

Every share goes to a named person with their own signed-in account. There are no public links.

Invite someone#

  1. Open SharingClick Sharing in the sidebar. Under Invite someone, enter their email address.
  2. Choose what to sharePick Entire case — everything, including anything you add later — or choose categories one by one: Evidence, Documents, Messages, To-dos, Timeline, Hearings, Contacts, Court cases, Key dates, Issues, and Generated docs. For Evidence, Documents, and Messages you can share everything or pick specific items.
  3. Choose a permission levelfor each category (see below).
  4. SendClick Send invite.

If they don't have an account, they get an email inviting them to create a free one. If they already have a verified account, access is granted right away and they see a notice in the app. Invitations last 14 days; sending again to the same address issues a fresh link. If the email can't be delivered, the page shows the invitation link for you to send yourself.

The person must sign in with the same email address you invited. If your attorney uses a different address for their account, invite that one.

Permission levels#

LevelThey can
Upload onlyAdd new records, without seeing existing material. Useful for someone sending you documents.
ViewRead, but not download or change.
DownloadView and download.
CommentView and comment. (Commenting doesn't include downloading.)
EditEverything: view, download, comment, and change.

Photos downloaded by collaborators have location data removed. Anything shown on screen can still be copied or photographed by the viewer, so share only what you're comfortable with them having.

Manage who has access#

People with access lists everyone you've invited, marked Pending (with the expiry date) or Accepted, and each of their grants.

  • Change a grant's level from its dropdown.
  • Revoke removes one grant immediately, without a confirmation step.
  • Remove person removes all of their access (you'll be asked to confirm).

Share single items#

On any evidence item or document, the access button ("Private · manage access" or "Shared with N people") lets you set that item's level for each person you've invited to the case: no access, view, view and comment, view and download, or edit.

On the Evidence page, Sharing defaults for future contributions sets who automatically gets access to what you add from now on. It doesn't change existing items.

When someone shares with you#

Use the switcher at the top-left of the app (Shared with me → the owner's name), or open Sharing → Shared with me. The app reloads in their case; anything they haven't shared simply isn't there.

What you add stays yours until you share it

Evidence, documents, messages, to-dos, timeline events, and contacts that a collaborator adds to someone else's case are private to the person who added them — even from the case owner — until they share them. Hearings, court cases, key dates, and issues are always visible to the owner.

AI operations are counted against whoever uses them. Evidence and storage limits follow the owner's plan.

Client exchange#

Client exchange in the sidebar is a structured way to work with an attorney's office. Open a case you have access to and use its tabs:

  • Requests — the case owner (or firm staff) can Request records from someone, with instructions and a due date. The recipient uses Add and submit records.
  • Materials — browse records, upload, and Submit selected records. Every submission gets a receipt. Item discussions (comments) live here.
  • Review — each submission's status: needs clarification, reviewed, or approved.
  • Messages — case communication with a named person.
  • Packages — release a fixed set of records to named recipients with a title, purpose, and expiry (up to 90 days), optionally allowing downloads of the originals with a fingerprint manifest. Recipients can acknowledge receipt; you can revoke future access. Up to 250 files / 60 MB.

Once someone has downloaded a copy, it can't be recalled — revoking stops future access only.
