Mediation Coach

Rehearse mediation with AI role-play, then get calm, word-for-word suggestions for what to say while a session is happening.

Mediation can be the most stressful hour of a case: you're face to face (or screen to screen) with the other side, and the right words don't always come. Mediation Coach helps in two ways — practice beforehand with AI playing the mediator and the other party, and live coaching during the real session with suggested lines you can say out loud.

Mediation Coach is communication coaching: calm, clear, de-escalating wording. It doesn't tell you what to agree to or give legal advice. It's included with the Mediation Coach plan and Full Suite (not the trial or free plan).

Set it up first#

Open Mediation in the sidebar and click Settings.

  • System prompt — describe your situation, what you're hoping to reach, and the tone you want. The more specific, the better the suggestions: "Mediation about summer schedule. I want two consecutive weeks. Stay calm and child-focused; avoid rehashing last year."
  • Mediator persona and Other-party persona — for practice, describe how each tends to behave. Leave blank for a neutral mediator and a realistic, reactive other party.
  • Voices — choose a voice for each role, with a preview button.

Settings are saved in this browser for this case.

Practice mode#

  1. StartClick Practice mode (or Start a practice session).
  2. Let them talkUse Mediator speaks or [Other party] speaks for one turn each, or Auto role-play to let them go back and forth.
  3. RespondType your reply in Say something as you and click Say — or use a suggested line.
  4. Listen (optional)Turn Voices on to hear each role spoken aloud.

Practicing out loud, with the pushback you expect, is one of the best ways to stay steady on the day.

Live coaching during a session#

  1. Set who's in the roomUnder In the room, choose Mediator only or add the other party, and enter their name.
  2. Enter what they sayType what the mediator or other party said into the bar at the bottom of Conversation, choose who said it, and click Insert. Suggestions appear after each line from someone other than you.
  3. Use a suggestionCards under What to say show word-for-word lines. Mark one ✓ Used, ask for another phrasing with ↻ Redo, or ⤵ Insert it into the transcript as your line.
The microphone captures you, not them

Start listening transcribes your voice into the conversation (Chrome or Edge required). Suggestions are triggered by the other people's lines, so type in what the mediator or other party says — a few key words is enough.

The flow slider controls how often suggestions appear and how many: at 1 you'll only see the single most relevant line; at 10, up to four. Click a speaker name in the transcript to rename them.

Sessions#

  • A session starts with the first line and is saved to your account.
  • Sessions end automatically after 30 minutes without a new line, so a forgotten tab can't use up your allowance. If you see "Session ended after 30 minutes of inactivity", click Clear to start a new one.
  • Clear ends the session and clears the screen.

Auto role-play uses about two operations per turn and can reach the 20-per-10-minutes limit in a long run — pause it while you think.

Tips#

  • Practice the conversation you're dreading most, not the easy one.
  • Keep your goals in the system prompt short and concrete.
  • Use suggestions as a starting point — say them in your own words if that feels more natural.
  • Check whether your mediator allows devices in the session before relying on live coaching.
