Timeline

A dated history of your case that builds itself from evidence, hearings, and key dates — with events you add, filters by type, year, and month, and hearing outcomes.

Sidebar → TimelineCase → Timeline tab

A clear timeline is one of the most useful things you can bring to an attorney meeting, a mediation, or a hearing. Custody Commander's timeline collects everything dated in your case into one chronological view, grouped by month and day.

What appears on the timeline#

TypeWhere it comes from
EventsEntries you add yourself (or ask the Assistant to add).
EvidenceAny evidence item with an event date — added automatically.
HearingsEvery hearing in your court cases, with its status and outcome.
Key datesImportant dates attached to your case.

Each entry is marked Past, Upcoming, or Next, and dates you've marked as approximate show "(approx.)".

Open the timeline from Timeline in the sidebar to see every court case together, or from a court case's Timeline tab to see just that case.

Add an event#

  1. Pick the dateThe date the thing happened.
  2. Describe itA short Event title ("Missed Saturday exchange") and optional Detail. Detail supports basic Markdown — **bold**, lists, and line breaks.
  3. Attach itChoose a court case under Attach to, or All Cases if it applies to your whole situation.
  4. SaveClick Add event.
Stick to facts

Write events the way you'd want them read aloud: who, what, when, and where, without adjectives. "Pickup scheduled 5:00 pm; child picked up 7:40 pm" is more useful than "Late again, as usual".

You can also build a timeline by talking: choose Tell your story in the setup wizard, or ask the Assistant to "add an event to my timeline". And a dated evidence item appears on its own — so the fastest way to fill your timeline is often to date your evidence.

  • Case — all court cases or one (fixed when you're inside a case).
  • Search timeline — find entries by their text.
  • Types — events, evidence, key dates, hearings.
  • Years and Months — handy for "everything from last summer" or "every December".

Each group has All and None shortcuts. Filters combine: an entry must match every group you've set. Clear filters resets them.

Hearings on the timeline#

Click a hearing to open its side panel, where you can see and link the evidence, documents, and binders for that hearing and create a binder. Add the result with Add one now, or change it with Edit outcome — you can record what happened, notes, and an overall outcome (good, bad, or neutral/mixed) for your own tracking. See Hearings.

Editing and deleting#

Only events you added by hand can be deleted from the timeline. To remove an evidence item from the timeline, clear its event date; hearings are managed from the case's Hearings tab.

Sharing your timeline#

You can give an attorney or advocate access to your timeline on its own, or as part of your whole case. See Sharing. For a printable version, the Evidence Index and the Case Timeline Summary template in Documents are good starting points.
